Presence of American Foulbrood in honeybee population

The honey bee industry in Prince Edward Island is relatively small (<5,000 hives) compared to the rest of Canada, but it plays a vital role in the delivery of pollination services to agricultural crop producers, especially lowbush blueberry.

The PEI Department of Agriculture, Fisheries & Aquaculture recently confirmed the presence of American Foulbrood (AFB) which is resistant to oxytetracycline.
