Requirements for membership and licensure in Prince Edward Island
Application for Membership
First, PLEASE READ THESE IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS (AND SEE BELOW FOR APPLICATION FOR LICENSURE)
Veterinarians who wish to practice veterinary medicine in Prince Edward Island must be members in good standing with the PEIVMA and licensed to practice by the PEIVMA.

**Note**
Incomplete application packages, including insufficient fees, will be returned to the applicant and will not be processed until completed.
A membership application package MUST include:
- A completed membership application form.
- Proof of graduation (a certificate of educational qualifications in veterinary medicine) from a university accredited by the CVMA at the time of your graduation, or a Certificate of Qualification from the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA) National Examining Board.
- Letters of reference from other licensing jurisdictions.
- The required application fee (plus HST).
- The required annual membership fee (plus HST).

*Full-year memberships run from October 1–September 30 each year. Membership applications after May 1 are subject to a pro-rated amount (listed here) and run from May-September 30.
*Applicants for Membership only (not eligible to practice veterinary medicine in PEI) must pay the corresponding application fee and membership fee as listed above plus 14% HST.
*Applicants for License only (already PEIVMA members) must pay the corresponding license fee plus application fee as above plus 14% HST.
*Annual membership fees are due in October of each year. An invoice will be sent to each member annually. Delinquent accounts will result in termination of membership and license to practice veterinary medicine in PEI.

Application for a License to Practice Veterinary Medicine
(PEIVMA Bylaws Section 16)

An application package for a General License MUST include:
- A completed membership application form and the required fees (plus HST) or proof of PEIVMA membership.
- A Certificate of Qualification from the CVMA National Examining Board.
- The required license fee (plus HST).
An application package for an Academic License MUST include:
- A completed membership application form and the required fees (plus HST) or proof of PEIVMA membership.
- Proof of an academic appointment to the Atlantic Veterinary College, UPEI.
- The required license fee (plus HST).
An application package for an Educational License MUST include:
- A completed membership application form and the required fees (plus HST) or proof of PEIVMA membership.
- Proof of acceptance in an internship or residency programme at the Atlantic Veterinary College under the direction and supervision of a licensed employee of the Atlantic Veterinary College, UPEI.
- The required license fee (plus HST).
An application package for a Limited or Short-term License MUST include:
- A completed membership application form and the required fees (plus HST) or proof of PEIVMA membership.
- A Certificate of Qualification from the CVMA National Examining Board, or proof of graduation from a CVMA accredited Canadian veterinary school prior to 1985.
- The required license fee (plus 14% HST).
- Short-term license requires documentation from sponsor (Bylaw 16.5(5)A).
