Continuing Education
Important Reminder for all
Licensed Members of the PEIVMA
PEIVMA Continuing Education Policy
According to
bylaw 18.1, all licensed members of the PEIVMA must obtain at least twenty (20)
hours of continuing education every two calendar years. A record of this CE must be submitted annually, regardless of the CE activity
taken by the member the previous year.
Even those members who qualify for an exemption (see below) must submit
their form indicating why they are exempt.
Acceptable
continuing education within the PEIVMA is any formal veterinary related
lecture, lab or seminar where the speaker is a veterinarian or the sponsoring
organization is veterinary in nature. Also,
on-line CE is acceptable if it is sponsored by a veterinary group, has a method
of assessment to ensure completion of the material, and issues a certificate to
that end. RACE (Registry of Approved
Continuing Education with the American Association of Veterinary State Boards)
approved on-line courses are preferred.
If you are in doubt as to whether or not your planned CE fits the PEIVMA
policy, please do not hesitate to contact a member of council for approval
prior to attendance.
New graduates
are exempt from the above bylaw when applying for membership/licensure within
the first two years of graduation from an accredited college. However, at the time of their
membership/licence renewal two years post graduation, they are required to have
accumulated the necessary twenty hours.
Individuals
applying for new membership/license from a jurisdiction where there was no
mandatory requirement for continuing education will be assessed on a
case-by-case basis by the licensing board.
They may be required to obtain CE deemed suitable by the licensing board
before being granted a licence.
